Randy Simpson appointment to be New State Fire Marshal.Simpson has been serving as acting state fire marshal since December 2008 following the retirement of State Fire Marshal Nancy Orr.
Simpson began his fire service in 1977 as a volunteer firefighter in Ontario, Oregon. In 1978 he became an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). He became a full-time firefighter/EMT in 1980 and worked through the ranks to becoming Ontario Fire Department's Fire Inspector in 1987 and Deputy Fire Chief / Hazardous Materials Response Team Coordinator in 1992. Randy served as Ontario's Fire Chief from 1997 to 2005 before taking the position of Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal.
The Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal employs a staff of 70, working in areas of community education, emergency planning and response, fire & life safety, inspection, investigation, fire code administration, licensing, permitting, and data gathering and analysis in furthering its mission to protect citizens, their property and the environment from fires and hazardous materials.
